Testimonials about the Book

Political Process in India is a triumph of sorts. A fairly young set of scholars who have contributed to the reader have raised the bar for analytical interpretation and lucidity of expression on salient themes in Indian politics.

This will be a welcome and refreshing addition to a tiny shelf of accessible textbooks on India's political process.
-Ashok Acharya, Professor in Department of Political Science,
University of Delhi

This edited volume is a comprehensive overview of the major aspects that dominate the political processes in India today. The readers would find it useful. It is lucid and informative.
-Dr. Sushila Ramaswamy, Associate Professor in Political Science
Jesus and Mary Collage, University of Delhi

This book is an indubitably exciting package of imagination, creativity, and content, and it transcends the popular, largely pejorative, notions of a textbook. With lucid deliberations on thematic subject, laced with snippets of important asides and intellectually stimulating aesthetic components, this book is a must read for students, as well as teachers who aspire to teach differently. It would help the students in writing good essays as well as also think and imagine toward further explorations. This indeed sets a unique benchmark for readers and writers.

Political Process in India edited by Sanjeev Kumar HM and Dev N Pathak is a largely competent, analytical survey of the events that have occurred in post independence India and the literature on it. It is more focused on the recent past, although it also incorporates some developments in the colonial era. The notable feature of this book is that many of the chapters seeks to introduce the student to the recent literature and debates on the many dimensions of the political process in India. The chapters on Regionalism, Affirmative Action and on Secularism are specially noteworthy in this regard. The book also incorporates visual material such as political and commercial cartoons, photographs and excerpts from newspaper articles and from books. This makes for livelier reading than most existing text books. The book will be useful for students from undergraduate students and some chapters can also be helpful to graduate students.
