This book is an attempt to understand the implementation of the Scheduled Tribes and Other Traditional Forest Dwellers (Recognition of Forest Rights) Act, (FRA) 2006 in the context of increasing alienation of land rights, landlessness, deprivation, exclusion and marginalization of the tribals. This book explains how the ownership, access and control over livelihood resources by the few create conditions of social and economic disadvantages. This book therefore re-opens the questions for further investigations on the basis of the arguments build in the study to provide a broader understanding of the rights to resources of livelihood in the context of the rights-based approach of the state policies which aims at correcting the historical injustices to certain sections of the society.

Dr. Rachna Kumari Prasad is Assistant Professor in Mata Sundri College, Delhi

University in the Department of Political Science. She has done her Ph.D from

Delhi University, Department of Political Science on the topic Forest Land Rights of the Tribals in Jharkhand. She has cleared UGC-JRF. Her area of specialization is Human Rights, Development, Social Movements, Multiculturalism and Environment. She has more than ten years of teaching experience in different colleges of Delhi University. She has taught various papers in Honours and Programme courses. Her publications include Dalit and Tribal Rights (2013), and ‘Right to Forest Land: Who Benefits?’ (Mainstream, 2013). She has also presented papers on many National Seminars and Symposium and has also published research papers in Peer Reviewed/UGC Listed Journals. Her recent published work is on Implementation of SC/ST Atrocities Act, 1989, published in edited book ‘Human Rights and Responsibility’, Introduction to political theory, Rajnitik Sidhant Ek Parichay, Your Laws Your Rights and Aapke Kanoon AapkeAdhikar.
